WHY IRAN'S REGIME IS TRYING TO STOP THE ECONOMIC MESSAGE
Mojtaba Khamenei's Telegram account acknowledged inflation, unemployment, and high prices but told officials to avoid rhetoric that highlights these problems. ISW assesses this likely targets recent public warnings from pro-concessions officials.
Pezeshkian and Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf had both recently warned publicly that Iran cannot endure economically regardless of military strength. Pezeshkian's August 28 address, broadcast after Mojtaba's warning, linked economic hardship to the war, sanctions, and the naval blockade.
