WHY IRAN'S RADAR STRIKES MATTER FOR HORMUZ SHIPPING
Iran struck US and allied bases on September 1 in retaliation for US strikes that day on Iranian military targets, including radars. CENTCOM said the strikes followed Iranian attacks on three oil tankers and US forces and bases in the region.
ISW-CTP assesses that US strikes on radars will likely impose operational constraints on Iranian forces attempting to disrupt shipping in the strait, building on its August 31 assessment that Iran already faced such constraints.
Iranian attacks on August 30 and 31 struck a tanker and a VLCC using the southern route out of the strait, showing Iran retains some capacity to target shipping despite constraints, according to ISW-CTP.
ISW-CTP notes Iran has resorted to suboptimal methods, including visual detection from fast attack craft and rocket-launched mines, suggesting Iran is adapting to constraints rather than operating unconstrained.

Ukrainian forces continued counteroffensives in the Lyman and Oleksandrivka directions, liberating at least 129.81 square kilometers.
German officials attributed the August 5 Leipzig/Halle Airport drone attack to Russia, describing tactics consistent with Russian modus operandi. ISW also reports Ukrainian Air Force data showing Russia launched over 2,800 jet-powered drones in August, which are harder to intercept than piston-engine drones. Separate fires at Polish defense facilities have not been officially attributed to Russia.

Bloomberg reported the US is investigating Singapore-based Apex Logistics over 47 shipments possibly mislabeled to evade export controls on semiconductors bound for China, per the ISW update. ISW notes this could produce the first legal action against a transportation firm for chip smuggling, reflecting ongoing US-China tech competition.
