WHY THE TAIZ-ADEN ROUTE FIGHT MATTERS
ISW-CTP reports that Houthi forces attempted to advance from al Akbush toward Hijat al Abd on September 23, briefly severing the only effective main supply route linking Taiz City to government-controlled territory before being repelled.
ISW assesses that Houthi control of this route would effectively encircle Yemeni government-aligned forces in Taiz City, providing strategic high ground over Red Sea coastal positions and improving the group's ability to threaten Aden.
Separately, ISW-CTP reports that the Houthis claimed a preemptive strike on a Saudi base in al Tuwal, Najran Province, which ISW assesses is likely intended to deter Saudi Arabia from conducting cross-border ground operations.
ISW also reports that the Wall Street Journal, citing Iranian customs data, found PRC aircraft delivered roughly 1,300 shipments of dual-use technology to Iran's defense ministry between January and June 2026, possibly circumventing the US naval blockade.
